Renewable Energy Innovation Partnership

Global Project

Energy systems are complex, and will only become more so as we move from fossil fuels to renewables. A renewable energy innovation partnership can help us meet ambitious climate targets by finding ways to improve upon our current energy systems.

Renewable energy innovation partnerships are cooperative efforts between governments, private companies, researchers, and other relevant organizations. They can help maximize the impact of new research and so improve our energy systems, speeding up the creation and installation of new clean energy technologies, improving the efficiency of renewable energy generators, helping to scale promising renewable technologies such as floating off-shore wind farms and green hydrogen, and improving the climate resilience of power systems.

A partnership might unlock money for creation and installation of new technologies, the sharing of information, or even the creation of laws and regulatory frameworks that support renewable technology innovation.

However, partnerships can also present challenges, some countries or businesses sometimes want to keep their discoveries secret because they provide a competitive advantage in the global marketplace. Fruitful cooperation often requires these actors to put such qualms aside.

TAKE ACTION
  • Work on local community initiatives that make it easier for others in your community to access renewable energy. Some community energy projects partner with governments to act as laboratories for new renewable technologies, for example.

  • Contact your political representatives to advocate for partnerships and resource sharing with other countries and private partners to accelerate the building of renewable energy.
