Renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydropower, and geothermal are critical to the transition to a sustainable, low-emission energy system. Renewable technology partnerships encourage collaboration between governments, companies working in the power sector, and groups of researchers, so that they can share knowledge, create new renewable energy technologies, improve existing technologies and wider energy systems, and support the roll out of renewable tech more generally.

These partnerships may concentrate on important issues such as improving energy storage energy, making smarter grids and more responsive grid, and improving the efficiency of clean energy sources. By bringing together diverse experts, partnerships can identify and overcome technological and financial barriers to scaling up renewable energy production, making renewable energy easier and cheaper to install.

Renewable technology partnerships rely upon the goodwill of all actors involved and are enabled by policies that support cooperation. They are especially effective when the results of these collaborations are openly shared, not only between those within the partnership, but also with the public, so others can take advantage of insights and discoveries.

GAMEPLAY NOTES

To activate this Global Project, players need to tuck Local Project cards from their hands under this card. The requirement is 1 Regulation tag in a Solo or 2-player game, or 2 Regulation tags in a 3-player or 4-player game.

Once active: Players may give cards with Energy and/or Grid tags from their hand to other players during the Local stage of each round.

  • Support the development and building of renewable energy technologies if you work in a relevant industry. For example, by urging investment in R&D and adopting sustainable business practices.

  • Advocate for policies that encourage Renewable Technology Partnerships, and the transition to a low-carbon energy system more widely.
