Fossil Fuel Industrial Sabotage

Crisis
card artwork

Some in the environmental movement believe that sabotaging fossil fuel infrastructure to limit harm to the planet is justified, especially given the lack of action from governments. This includes efforts to destroy machinery, property, and other facilities that facilitate the burning of fossil fuels. They argue that if your home was on fire, you would be justified in doing whatever you could to put the fire out. People have been caught and sent to prison for committing climate sabotage. Beyond danger and risks involved, some believe that using tactics like this in the name of environmentalism weakens the entire movement, making change through policy and public opinion more difficult. Yet supporters of climate sabotage often counter that from the Suffragettes to the Civil Rights movement, having a more radical wing has often helped wider movements push politicians to make concessions.
